Overview
Embark on an extraordinary 7-day journey through Yemen’s historic Hadramawt region and along its remote Arabian Sea coast, combining ancient Islamic heritage, remarkable mud-brick architecture, traditional villages and dramatic desert landscapes. The adventure begins in Seiyun, where you will have an opportunity to explore the city before travelling to the sacred Tomb of Hud and the historic town of Tarim, a renowned centre of Islamic teaching. Here, you will discover the impressive Al-Muhdhar Mosque and its 53-metre-high mud-built minaret, as well as the tomb of Qabr Ahmad al Habashi.
The journey continues to Shibam, often known as the “Manhattan of Arabia,” where towering mud-built skyscrapers rise dramatically from the Wadi Hadramout landscape. From here, travel into Wadi Dawan, a picturesque valley filled with date palms and traditional villages. Spend a full day discovering the valley, including the village of Saif, the spectacular rock-built settlement of Al Hajjarain, and Beit Buqshan, famous for its colourful palace.
Leaving the valleys behind, the route continues to Al Mukkalah, the historic old port city, where you will visit the museum and explore the old port. The final stages of the journey follow Yemen’s scenic coastline towards Al Ghayda, with opportunities to stop at small fishing villages and beaches along the way. On the final day, continue through Hawf towards the Yemeni border before travelling onward to Salalah in Oman, where the tour concludes.
This journey offers a combination of Yemen’s historic cities, Islamic heritage, distinctive architecture, traditional communities, mountain valleys and coastal scenery, making it a comprehensive introduction to the cultural and geographical diversity of eastern Yemen.

Itinerary
Arrive in Seiyun as a group and transfer to your hotel for a briefing. Depending on the flight arrival time, enjoy an opportunity to explore the city of Seiyun. Overnight in Seiyun.
Today, drive to visit the Tomb of Hud, described in the itinerary as the most famous Sufi saint of Yemen, followed by a visit to the ancient town of Tarim. Tarim is renowned as a centre of Islamic teaching and is home to important monuments including the Al-Muhdhar Mosque and its 53-metre-high minaret, one of the tallest mud-built structures in the world. Continue with a visit to the tomb of Qabr Ahmad al Habashi before returning to Seiyun. End the day watching the sunset overlooking Shibam. Overnight in Seiyun.
Return to Shibam for a morning tour. Known as the “Manhattan of Arabia,” Shibam is famous for its remarkable mud-built skyscrapers and is one of the highlights of the journey. Continue out of Wadi Hadramout and enter Wadi Dawan, a beautiful valley characterised by date palms and small traditional villages. Overnight in Wadi Dawan.
Enjoy a full day exploring Wadi Dawan, beginning with sunrise over the wadi. Visit the small village of Saif and admire the view of Al Hajjarain, dramatically built on a rock escarpment in the middle of the wide wadi. Continue to Beit Buqshan, home to its famous colourful palace. Overnight in Wadi Dawan.
Continue the journey towards the old port city of Al Mukkalah. In the afternoon, explore the city with a visit to its museum and old port. Overnight in Al Mukkalah.
Set out early for a long but scenic drive along the Yemeni coast towards Al Ghayda. Take time along the way to stop at small fishing villages and beaches, enjoying the changing coastal scenery. Overnight in Al Ghayda.
Start early and continue along the Yemeni coast, passing small fishing villages and beaches as you travel towards Oman. After reaching the Yemeni border, continue by road to Salalah, approximately three hours away. Drop-off in Salalah marks the end of the trip.
